PLEASE never use the word TWEEN again. Here's some journalistic wisdom.. a large media outlet with MSN and NBC behind it offers to run your article... you shouldn't put stupid twendy words in there, especially if you think you will have to explain what it means. Can't you just say pre-teens, young teens, hell adolescents or kids works too. Or maybe just give their age. But tween? wow... my eyes are bleeding from your multiple offenses....

American Heritage Dictionary -

tween (twēn) n. A child between middle childhood and adolesence, usually between 8 and 12 years old.

I sincerely hope your eyes stop bleeding. You might want to go see a doctor about that.
