Red State Of The Union

Never before have so many lies, misstatements, and omissions been present in a State of the Union address. Not even in Bush's famous "Saddam has WMD's" address.

First, he started talking about fiscal responsibility. Big words coming from a man who flushed the US treasury down the toilet.

Then Bush said private accounts in social security will allow people to "build a nest egg for your own future"

Nowhere did he mention that the "nest egg" will be less than current benefits already give. Private accounts mean reduced guaranteed benefits-- smaller checks in your golden years.

He said "Your money will grow, over time, at a greater rate than anything the current system can deliver."

That just isn't true. Even if the stock market grew like it did in the dot.com boom of the 90's, the average investment in the stock market wouldn't gain money equal to what the system already provides.

Bush said that by 2042, "the entire system would be exhausted and bankrupt."

Actually, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that Social Security as it is would be able to pay 73 percent of benefits in 2042 and be in business for 10 years beyond that. Even a 25% cut in benefits in the year 2042 would be preferable over the loss private accounts would cause, both in billion dollar deficits it would cause today and the reduced social security checks in the future.

Bush gloated about adding 2.3 million jobs "in the last year alone," as if his four years in office had produced job gains in our country.

In fact, our country remains about 300,000 jobs short of the way Clinton left it.

Bush called Iraq "free and sovereign." Yet its citizens have curfews and are subject to random, unnannounced searches. Prisoners, guilty or not, are beaten and tortured. Bombs go off hourly in the streets, and U.S. soldiers are an overwhelming presence.

He also said Iraq was "a vital front on the war on terror" and that we "are fighting terrorists in Iraq so we do not have to face them here at home."

There was no link between Al-Queda and Iraq. No Iraqi terrorist was involved in the 9/11 attacks. No Iraqi terrorist killed an American until after we had invaded Iraq.

Bush called "No Child Behind' a success because it improved test scores. He fails to mention the test scores that "improved" were not SATs or exams in class, but the test developed by "No Child Left Behind." Many schools can't fulfill the law's standards because the Bush administration didn't provide proper funding. They are penalized for failing, but not given help to fix their problems.

He also said he'd increase Pell grants. With what money?

More Lies Here: Statements of the Union

Whats worse, I listened to people comment on how great his ideas are.
What?????

On the daily show, a woman said she wanted to kill social security because she didn't want to pay for old people.

The problem with that logic is that the social security that comes out of your paycheck (which the woman said was half of her paycheck, a blatant lie) GOES TO YOU!!!!!! It goes into an account, the same account that you draw from when you get old. You're paying for yourself!!!

Now, some might say you have the right to chose whether you want the money now or later. But the truth is, everyone knows that if you choose now, you'll still want it later. Social Security is security-- from making stupid decisions. It saves your retirement money for you-- so you're not an idiot who spends it all and dies sleeping in a gutter at 65.

Ok. Thats all my ranting for now. I HATE BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
